Shirley Froyd

Shirley showed an early interest in art and took a class at the Chicago Art Institute as a child. Later, she did leatherwork for several years. She earned her living as a flight and groundschool instructor at airports and colleges and found landscapes were always an inspiration. Outdoor activities strengthened her interest in nature and wildlife.
Interest in art propelled her to seek more formal training at Cal-State, Los Angeles while also raising a family. Though working mostly in watermedia now, Shirley has also worked in oils, acrylics, serigraphy and stained glass. Being adept at carpentry has helped in making frames, cabinets, light boxes, and the like.
M.A. Fine Arts, Cal-State, Los Angeles Instruction and workshops have been taken with: Jan Bittle, Gerald Brommer, Christopher Schink, Maxine Masterfield, Jean Dobie, Joe Bohler, Michael Schlichting, Jan Kunz, Al Brouilette, Milford Zornes, Irving Shapiro, Guy Pederson, Judy Morris, Steve Quiller, Arnie Westerman, and Dale Laitinen.
As a former resident of Pasadena, California and a member of the Firehouse Gallery, Shirley has had shown at the gallery as well as in juried shows in the area. She has sold many paintings to individuals in California and Oregon and has won several awards at county fairs and local exhibitions. She is a member of the Watercolor Society of Oregon. Shirley has been in juried shows at the University of Oregon, New Zone Gallery, Mayor's Show of Eugene, Beaverton Showcase, Art About Agriculture, as well as into several shows of the Watercolor Society. Shirley's work is currently shown at Alder Gallery, Coburg and the Cottage Grove Art Guild's.
