[ Joy Woodard ] Joy Woodard has been drawing "pictures" since she was old enough to hold a pencil. Joy was born in Nashville Tennessee and grew up in Santa Monica California. Joy was an art major at the University of Southern California, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. Her planned career in costume design was interrupted by marriage, moving to Cottage Grove, and the raising their three sons.

Joy continued painting in all mediums, but didn't start selling her works until 1980. Her favorite medium is watercolor and fresh flowers, mostly grown in her own garden, are her favorite subjects. They are bright and colorful and her work is described as "Happy Paintings". Also included in her selections are some acrylics on gold foil, which give a different feeling and have been very well received.

Exhibitions

In 1983, Joy was honored by being accepted into the Watercolor Society of Oregon. Her works have been on display at gallery locations throughout Oregon and at the Frame Rack and The Oregon Art Gallery, both in Cottage Grove, The Valley River Inn in Eugene, and the Art Merchant in Sisters, Oregon. Three "one woman" shows in Eugene were well attended as were her two University of Oregon campus showings. She has also shown at the Kerr Gallery at Albertina Kerr's, the Gallery at the William Temple House in Portland, Oregon.

Joy has been a member of the Cottage Grove Art Guild since it began and has shown in the guild's former gallery in the Cottage Grove Community Center and is showing in the Main Street Art Gallery, as well as the guild's Village Green and the Cottage Grove Hospital art displays.
