Jean Snook

While living in California, Jean studied with many well known artists including: the famous tv painter Gary Jenkins; seascape artist Buck Paulson; nationally known oil painter, Charles LaMonk, who specialized in Indian portraits and figures in Lancaster; Don Ricks, Idaho oil artist, who specialized in landscapes, people, and florals; and Shirley Prescott. She attended Grenda Hill's Rene White's School of Fine Art as well as the Lila Mise School of Art in Bakersfield. She also attended many workshops in the area. In Oregon she has studied with Jim Daley, an early American children's artist, and Bob Niems who has been teaching in Cottage Grove. Her education is ongoing and she enjoys taking classes from different artists. Jean has, herself, taught many classes at the high school and college levels as well as conducted workshops. She paints mostly in oils, specializing in florals. She also enjoys painting portraits and landscapes.
Jean has shown in several galleries in the area and has won many ribbons and awards for her work including 1st place statewide and 3rd place national in the Oregon Grange competition. She is now showing with the Cottage Grove Art Guild in the Main Street Art Gallery, the Village Green, and the Cottage Grove Hospital. Over the years she has participated in many local sidewalk shows, exhibitions, and galleries. Jean has been a member of the Cottage Grove Art Guild since the beginning and was a long time member and a president of the former Bohemia Art Guild.
